City of Lansing could vote on marijuana in fall

LANSING (AP) -- Proponents of legalizing marijuana say voters in the City of Lansing could decide in November whether to decriminalize the drug.
The Lansing State Journal reports more than 6,000 signatures were submitted Monday for a proposal to amend the Lansing city charter.
The initiative seeks to add a provision that would allow the "use, possession or transfer of less than 1 ounce of marijuana on private property" by people who are age 21 or older.
A number of other Michigan cities already have passed similar ordinances. Efforts in Ferndale and Jackson plan to get the issue before voters in November in those cities.
Michigan voters approved marijuana for some chronic medical conditions in 2008.
