Schuette seeks re-election for attorney general

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has kicked off his re-election campaign. The Republican is seeking a second term as the state's lawyer. Schuette launched his campaign Monday with an event in his hometown of Midland. His re-election kick-off tour is to take him to Escanaba, Ludington and a number of other stops across the state this week. The 60-year-old Schuette is a former congressman, state lawmaker and appeals judge. He was elected attorney general in 2010 and is seen as a potential candidate for governor in 2018. Mark Totten is campaigning to be the Democratic nominee for attorney general. He's a Michigan State University law professor and a former Justice Department lawyer. Democratic and Republican activists will formally nominate their attorney general candidates at summer conventions. Published: Wed, Mar 26, 2014
