Judge in bankruptcy case took Detroit tour
DETROIT (AP) - The judge and lawyers in Detroit's bankruptcy case have completed a tour of the city.
The tour had been discussed for weeks, although no details were publicly disclosed until the bus was parked last Friday in Southfield. Judge Steven Rhodes was concerned about security. The Detroit News says federal marshals were on the bus and riding nearby in cars.
Rhodes took the tour at Detroit's request, two weeks before a trial on the city's plan to get out of bankruptcy. City attorneys wanted the judge to see roses as well as thorns.
The stops included Eastern Market, neighborhoods and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Some creditors consider art to be a potential source of cash, but the city can't be forced to sell assets.
