Two arraigned in troubled Wayne County jail project

DETROIT (AP) - A former Wayne County official and one of the county's top attorneys have been arraigned on misconduct in office and willful neglect of duty charges tied to a troubled jail project. Prosecutors say "not guilty" pleas were entered Tuesday in circuit court for Carla Sledge and Steven Collins. Sledge was chief financial officer and Collins is chief assistant corporation counsel. The charges follow an investigation into the planned 2,000-bed downtown Detroit jail. Construction contracts were cancelled after the project went $91 million over budget. Sledge and Collins are accused of giving false or misleading information about the cost. They are released on bond pending a hearing Friday. Anthony Parlovecchio, the project's former contractor, faces a neglect of duty charge. The Associated Press left messages Tuesday seeking comment from their attorneys. Published: Thu, Sep 25, 2014
