Firm helps donate a 'ton' of new, gently used items
When three businesses in Metro Detroit direct their collective energies toward community service, good things happen. During a Fall donation drive, Citizens Commercial Banking/Charter One, accounting firm UHY LLP, and Clark Hill law firm hosted a shared employee donation drive to benefit Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, yielding outstanding results.
Employees turned out their generosity by donating more than 3,200 pounds (more than one ton) of new and gently used items. The sale of these items, primarily in Goodwill's Metro Detroit retail stores, will help fund Goodwill's job training, education and placement programs that help those in Metro Detroit facing employment challenges become trained, trusted and ready to work.
"A little friendly competition across industries not only helps Goodwill but helps the business community in Metro Detroit come together for something bigger," said Don Lee, chief marketing officer at Clark Hill. "We are committed to building up the resources in our community that benefit those in need of opportunity."
With the opening of its newest and largest retail location in Livonia in November, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit now owns and operate five stores throughout Metro Detroit, each having created 25 new jobs and offering new and gently used items at reasonable prices.
"When the business community comes out in support of our mission, it not only inspires others to act, it also shows our clients and program participants that there are employers rooting for their success," said Lorna Utley, president & CEO of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. "We cant' thank Citizens/Charter One, UHY Advisors and Clark Hill enough for stepping forward."
"Employees in our organizations want to make a difference, they strive to better their communities and the programs that Goodwill offers contribute so much, not only to the community, but to the economy as well said Tony Frabotta, managing partner of UHY LLP.
For 93 years, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has served Metro Detroit and surrounding areas providing job training, education and placement programs like Flip the Script and its new Veterans program, Operation Good Jobs as well as several others.
"The programs and services that Goodwill provides are a real asset to our communities," said Rick Hampson, president of Citizens Commercial Banking and Charter One, Michigan. "Goodwill works to move individuals towards economic independence and stability and that is certainly something we can all appreciate."
Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit is the only organization in Southeast Michigan solely dedicated to helping local individuals overcome challenges and secure employment. In just the past two years, Goodwill Industries has placed more than 2,400 Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb county individuals into new jobs and provided job training, education, and placement services to more than 39,000 individuals in the region.
