Wayne Law students raise money for charity via ugly holiday sweater battle

Wayne State University Law School students, faculty, and staff voted through holiday charity donations this month for which lucky professor would wear a hideous holiday sweater for an entire day of teaching. The Battle of the Ugly Holiday Sweater student fundraiser, which raised $600, benefitted Detroit families adopted through Matrix Human Services. Contest winner for the upper-class students was Walter S. Gibbs Professor of Constitutional Law Steven Winter, with Distinguished Professor Alan Schenk as the runner-up. Winner for the first-year students was Assistant Professor Justin Long, with Professor Kingsley Browne as the runner-up. Other professors participating in the upper-class contest were Assistant Professor Blanche Cook, Associate Dean for Student Affairs Noah Hall, Associate Professor Christopher Lund, and Assistant Professor Eric Zacks. Voting took place Monday, Nov. 17, through Wednesday, Nov. 19, and the winners were announced Thursday, Nov. 20. On Saturday, Dec. 13, a luncheon will take place, and donated presents will be distributed to the families. Coordinators for the contest were students Erica Schell and Alexis Shull. Student groups sponsoring the contest were American Civil Liberties Union, Student Chapter; The Journal of Law in Society; Keith Students for Civil Rights; Student Animal Defense League Fund; Wayne Law Moot Court; Wayne Law Review; Women's Law Caucus; and Section 1 and Section 2 of the first-year classes.
