Oakland County Commissioners Bill Dwyer, Marcia Gershenson, and Janet Jackson have joined with the Farmington community in support of the annual Farmington Film Festival taking place March 5-7.
This year, audiences will be able to learn about the very difficult subject matter of human trafficking with the film “The Long Night” being showcased. This film will focus on the sex trade in the northwest United States. The film’s director, Tim Matsui, will participate in a question and answer session, along with other panelists.
The film will be shown on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith Theatre at Oakland Community College’s Orchard Ridge campus at 27055 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills. For film festival costs and information, go to www.gffilmfest.com.
“Human Trafficking is an issue that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners have held informational programs to make Oakland County residents aware of sex trafficking in our own county. Last year, County Commissioners formed the Oakland County Human Trafficking Workshop Committee, which was responsible for creating a two-day educational and training community event,” stated Gershenson. “‘The Long Night’ will assist the ongoing efforts of the Board by showcasing the issue of human trafficking on film.”
Other films to be featured will include “Crescendo”: The Power of Music,” “Alive Inside,” “Ernest & Celestine,” “Fed Up,” “1,000 Times Good Night,” and “Belle and Sebastian.”
Commissioners Dwyer, Gershenson, and Jackson represent the Farmington and Farmington Hills community.
