LANSING (AP) - The Michigan Historical Center has established a new membership program.
The center is part of the state Department of Natural Resources. Its responsibilities include the Michigan Historical Museum, 10 regional museums, the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the Archives of Michigan.
Membership costs under the new initiative begin at $45 for an individual. Among its benefits are an annual pass, a 10 percent discount at Michigan Historical Center stores and a quarterly newsletter.
The top membership level is for those donating $1,000 or $2,500.
Officials say a portion of the membership payments will help the historical center meet needs such as the acquisition of papers from Minoru Yamasaki of Troy, an acclaimed architect who designed the World Trade Center towers.
