Arthur Roy Cox
Arthur Roy Cox, age 84, of Rochester, died May 11. He was born on March 2, 1931 in Detroit, son of the late James and Anna (nee Metz) Cox. He graduated from Redford High School and attended the University of Michigan where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was also a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at U of M. Cox received his law degree from Wayne State University Law School where he also served as editor of the Wayne State University Law Review.
Cox served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1956 to 1958. He then began practicing law in Rochester in 1958 and became a partner at Bebout, Potere, & Cox. He served as the attorney for the City of Rochester from 1961 until 1996 and was instrumental in the growth and development of the city.
Cox deeply loved the City of Rochester, its denizens, history and growth. He was a longtime member of the Rochester Kiwanis Club, a life member of the Rochester Elks Club, B.P.O.E. #2225, an adult Committee member of Boy Scout Troop #123 in Rochester and attended the University Presbyterian Church in Rochester. He enjoyed gardening, reading history, U of M football, and family vacations in Traverse City and Orange Beach, Alabama.
Cox is survived by his wife Patricia Grace Hunter whom he married on September 29, 1956. He is also survived by his children James (Lisa) Cox, Susan Fisher, Sarah (Michael) Cox Bennion, and Andrew Cox; grandchildren Benjamin Cox, Nicholas Cox, Nathan Cox, Matthew Fisher, Robert Fisher, April Miller, Mike Bennion, Destinee Bennion Molzahn, Brodie Bennion, Kolby Bennion, Brittnee Harrison, Bailee Bennion, and Cox Hunter Bennion. Also survived by his brother James (Marcia) Cox, sisters Nancy (Gerard) Klees and Janet (Allen) Gable, and sister in law Suzanne Bolger.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 16, at the Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester. Memorials in Cox's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.pixleyfuneral.com.
