DETROIT (AP) - A jury has failed to reach a unanimous verdict in the civil trial of two U.S. border officers who were accused of an illegal body search on a Canadian woman.
U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman, Eastern District of Michigan, declared a mistrial Wednesday after jurors said no one was changing their mind.
Leslie Ingratta of Windsor, Ontario, sued two female officers who work for U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. Ingratta says her bare breasts were fondled and her groin was aggressively rubbed outside her clothing by an officer while the other watched in 2011.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Derri Thomas says the officers wouldn't risk their careers. She says Ingratta's story doesn't add up.
Ingratta's attorney, David Nacht, says he's pleased the jury took the matter "so seriously."
