The Michigan Judges Association (MJA) announces that it is accepting nominations for its Hilda Gage Judicial Excellence Award. In 2010, MJA created the Hilda Gage Award to recognize judicial excellence. The award is handed out in honor of the late Judge Hilda Gage who served on the Court of Appeals and Oakland Circuit Bench before passing away in 2010. She was renowned for her courage and scholarship. Gage was the first female president of MJA and the first woman to chair the Judicial Tenure Commission.
MJA seeks nominees who have followed Gage’s footsteps by “serving their state and their communities with integrity, skill, and courage every day.” The award recognizes current or former Circuit or Court of Appeals judges who have demonstrated exemplary service.
Anyone can nominate a judge for the award. The deadline is July 15. For a nomination form, contact Sarah Wenzlick, law clerk to Judge Pamela L. Lightvoet, at srwenz@kalcounty.com. The nomination form and information regarding the award can also be found on the Michigan Judges Association website, http://mijudge.org/.
