Western Michigan University Cooley Law School will honor Alan Gershel with the Integrity in our Communities award at noon on Friday, July 17. Gershel is currently the grievance administrator for the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission (AGC). During the event, Gershel will speak about his role and responsibilities to attorneys in his position with the state as part of WMU-Cooley Law School’s Integrity in Our Communities Speaker Series.
“Alan has proven his professional integrity and exceptional reputation time and time again,” said Joan Vestrand, associate dean of the WMU-Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus and professor. “There is no doubt his presentation will be enlightening to all who attend.”
Gershel, a 1978 graduate of University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, was appointed as the grievance administrator in September 2014 by the Michigan Supreme Court.
Previously, he taught at WMU-Cooley Law School, where he joined the full-time faculty in 2008. He worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit for nearly 30 years, including appointment as Chief of the Criminal Division from 1989-2008. He was also a hearing panelist for the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board for more than 20 years.
The Integrity in Our Communities Speaker Series brings nationally and locally recognized speakers to WMU-Cooley Law School to talk about issues, trials, and lawsuits on ethical and professional matters.
