The Great Lakes Environmental Law Center presented honors Thursday, Oct. 15, at its second annual Blue Water Bash. From left are honorees Jim Lynch of The Detroit News, U.S. Sen. Tom Henry of The Toledo Blade and Jim Lynch of The Detroit News were presented with Excellence in Environmental Journalism awards. Henry was recognized for providing outstanding coverage of the Lake Erie algae blooms and his in-depth investigations into nuclear power plants on the Great Lakes. Lynch was recognized for his coverage of the 2010 Enbridge oil spill near the Kalamazoo River and its aftermath, as well as continuing coverage of the Flint water crisis.
The awards were part of the center’s second annual Blue Water Bash fundraiser. This year’s event was at Tony V’s Tavern in Detroit, and the Gasoline Gypsies performed.
Wayne Law Assistant Clinical Professor Nick Schroeck, director of law school’s Transnational Environmental Law Clinic, also is executive director of the environmental law center. The center was founded by Wayne Law Associate Professor Noah Hall as part of a sabbatical project in 2008.
