Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) conducted a graduation ceremony for its thirteenth class of mediators from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, Auburn Hills Campus, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Oakland Mediation Center in Bloomfield Hills. OMC Education Manager Kenzi Bisbing (seated, center) was happy to present the class of 15 WMU-Cooley students which included (seated, left to right) Trevor Grant, Tracie Lemon, Latrice Witcher, and Skyler Spurling-Newsome; along with (standing left to right) Julianne Fogarty, Carl Allred, Sarah Colling, Stacy Hamilton, Katrina Downs, Robert Zielinski, Jason Tower, Douglas Haraszkiewicz, Joseph Falzon, Eric Shepherd, and Chester Jeanes. The students participated in this program as a result of a partnership between OMC and WMU-Cooley. This partnership provides law students with the opportunity to expand their professional skill set with the guidance of mediation experts. Speaking at the event was Doug Van Epps, director, Office of Dispute Resolution; Oakland County Probate Court Judge Kathleen Ryan; Bonnie Hanes, OMC executive director; and WMU-Cooley Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka, Auburn Hills campus. “The program prepares WMU-Cooley students for the real-world of mediation by providing experiential training and practical experience while developing highly-trained mediators” said Hanes.
