DETROIT (AP) - A volunteer-run urban farm in downtown Detroit is one of 10 new case studies featured in an online architecture exhibition.
Lafayette Greens annually grows more than 800 pounds of produce in raised beds. The fruit and vegetables are donated to local food banks.
It is part of the Designing Our Future: Sustainable Landscapes 40 case studies which focus on landscape designs and their positive effects on the environment and quality of life.
The American Society of Landscape Architects says the spaces use natural systems to provide ecosystem services and create new economic opportunities.
New case studies also include a coastal ecological restoration project, a San Francisco apartment complex for the chronically homeless and a quarry in China that has been transformed into a garden.
