The American Bar Association Law Student Division has launched ABA for Law Students, a new website designed to better serve its law student community.
The site, abaforlawstudents.com, which went live in November 2015, features information about student member benefits, including free membership for students in ABA-accredited schools; free membership to five ABA practice specialty groups; free six-month access to study aids from Quimbee; discounts on ABA events and books; and consumer discounts through ABA Advantage.
ABA for Law Students also features Before the Bar, a new blog that brings together information and news from the ABA alongside contributions from law school educators, law students, attorneys, judges and legal marketing professionals. The blog welcomes contributions from new writers as it works to help students succeed in law school, pass the bar exam, find a job after they graduate and continue to develop as lawyers. It will also be the home of future digital editions of Student Lawyer magazine.
Another key part of the site is the Law School Podcast, a collaboration with Legal Talk Network. Podcast hosts Fabiani Duarte, chair of the Law Student Division, and Madison Burke, 12th Circuit Governor on the division's Board of Governors, have addressed topics ranging from student loans to Public Service Loan Forgiveness to the bar exam with guests such as ABA President Paulette Brown, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and BARBRI founder Richard Conviser.
ABA for Law Students offers additional information for law students: a calendar of events targeted toward students; details on its four competitions (Arbitration, Negotiation, NAAC and Client Counseling); leadership opportunities through its Board of Governors, representatives, national directors and liaisons; news on grants, scholarships, internships, fellowships and competitions; and information on succeeding in the legal profession from the ABA's many practice specialty groups.
"There's no other resource in one place where you can get guidance and all the necessary tools you need to be a successful lawyer," ABA President Brown said. "You don't have to join five other organizations to get everything you need. You can get everything you need right here."
