Oakland County has draped a large American flag on the façade of the west wing of the Oakland County Circuit Court building to honor the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson directed the county’s Facilities Management Department to display the 60 x 30 foot banner on the building located at 1200 N. Telegraph in Pontiac.
“This U.S. flag is a humble reminder that we continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave since that tragic day 15 years ago,” Patterson said.
“We welcome visitors to our government campus to view the flag and solemnly reflect on that day and the sacrifices our men and women in uniform have made since 9/11.”
Individuals may view the flag from northbound Telegraph Road. Those who wish to get a closer look are welcome to park in one of the open lots near the Oakland County Circuit Court building located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac. Those who do should be aware of the ongoing construction outside of the building.
In addition, earlier this summer Patterson had declared Sept. 11-17 Patriot Week in Oakland County. Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren founded Patriot Week to renew “America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history.”
Patriot week is anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 and Sept. 17 or Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution by the founders.
