Justices of the Michigan Supreme Court recently journeyed to northern Michigan, visiting Petoskey for the Court Community Connections program on April 25. The seven-member court, which is missing one member since the recent retirement of Justice Robert Young, heard oral arguments at Petoskey High School, offering students an opportunity to better understand the appellate courts and Michigan’s judicial system. In a photo op at the program, seven judges from Emmet and Charlevoix counties joined their state judicial colleagues for the occasion. Pictured are (front row, left to right) Justice Joan L. Larsen, Justice David F. Viviano, Justice Brian K. Zahra, Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman, Justice Bridget M. McCormack, and Justice Richard H. Bernstein, along with (back row, left to right) Emmet County 90th District Court Judge James N. Erhart, Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Tribal Court Judge Allie Maldonado, Emmet and Charlevoix Probate Court Judge Frederick R. Mulhauser, Emmet County Circuit Court Judge Charles D. Johnson, Charlevoix County Circuit Court Judges Roy C. Hayes III and Richard M. Pajtas, and retired Judge Richard W. May.
