The council and members of the Oakland County Bar Association’s New Lawyers Committee (NLC) will host the Spring 2017 “May It Please the Court” seminar followed by the Meet the Judges Party on Thursday, May 18, at the Emagine Theater, 200 N. Main St. in Royal Oak.
The “May It Please the Court” program will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. featuring a panel of judges who will present their perspectives on effective legal writing. Among the panelists will be: Oakland County Circuit Court Judge James M. Alexander, Retired Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly, and U.S. District Court Judge David M. Lawson, Eastern District of Michigan.
Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to the first 25 registered.
Cost for OCBA members is $30 for seminar only and $70 for seminar and Meet the Judges Party; non-members pay $50 for seminar only and $120 for seminar and Meet the Judges Party.
The Meet the Judges Party will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with judges invited from all Oakland County courts, Michigan Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court, and federal courts for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available throughout the evening. During this networking event, a silent auction will raise funds for the Frank C. Perez Youth Fund.
Pre-registration cost is $60 for OCBA?members; $45 for OCBA?new lawyers (P74739+), paralegals, and students; and $80 for all non-members. Cost at the door is $70 for OCBA?members and $90 for all non-members.
