Companies interested in learning how to get a piece of the $100 million Oakland County spends annually on goods and services should mark Aug. 9 on their calendars.
The Oakland County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Department of Economic Development & Community Affairs and Purchasing Department, will present a free workshop – “Oakland is Open for Business” – for vendors, contractors, suppliers and entrepreneurs. The event begins at 2 p.m. in the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center, 2100 Pontiac Lake Road (Building 41W) in Waterford.
“We work with many vendors each year to obtain the goods and services that help keep our county running smoothly and efficiently for our 1.2 million residents,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for companies of all sizes to learn how to register their businesses and bid on new opportunities.”
The event will feature presentations that show:
• How to register with the Michigan Inter-Governmental Trade Network (MITN).
• How vendors are notified about bid opportunities.
• Where to find county policies that ensure fair bid evaluations.
• Current contracts and pricing information.
Attendees will also learn about the many free services including business counseling offered through the county’s One Stop Shop Business Center, possible financing options and connect with Oakland County Michigan Works! offices.
Representatives from Purchasing, Facilities Management, and the Community & Home Improvement Division will be available to answer questions. There are also table top displays explaining many county programs and services.
“Oakland is Open for Business” is hosted by County Commissioners Janet Jackson, Michael Spisz, and Gary R. McGillivray.
