BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A 51-year-old woman has been sentenced to jail after being convicted in a gambling card scam at a Knights of Columbus hall in Michigan.
The Bay City Times reports Melody A. Dominowski learned her punishment Tuesday after a jury earlier found her guilty of embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000 from a nonprofit or charitable organization. She was sentenced to 93 days in jail followed by probation.
Dominowski denied wrongdoing, saying she "did not commit this crime."
The judge also ordered her to pay more than $7,200 in restitution to Knights of Columbus Council 414.
State police started investigating in 2015, when the Knights of Columbus reported missing money related to pull-tab games. Court records say she collected money from ticket sales and completed charity game ticket forms that weren't accurate.
