State grants available for Michigan urban green space projects

LANSING (AP) - State grants are available for Michigan groups interested in undertaking projects that create more urban green spaces.

The Department of Natural Resources says $100,000 will be divided among local governments, schools, tribes and nonprofits through its 2018-19 Urban and Community Forestry program.

Coordinator Kevin Sayers says applicants for the program may request grants of up to $20,000, depending on the type of project.

Among topics that would be considered for funding are urban forest management, planning and training, and Arbor Day activities.

Grant applications must be postmarked by Sept. 21.

Information about the program and how to apply are available online at www.michigan.gov/dnr.
