DETROIT (AP) - The University of Detroit Mercy says it's reached its $100 million fundraising goal a year ahead of schedule.
The school's President Antoine M. Garibaldi announced Monday that "momentum and enthusiasm" for the effort helped "The Campaign for University of Detroit Mercy" succeed. The university says the fundraising effort still will continue as planned through the end of the year.
The school says it's exceeded goals for academic programming, faculty support and unrestricted use. Its endowment also has more than doubled since June 2011, with $28 million of the gifts designated for that use. The fundraising effort was made public in 2017, when $78.5 million was already raised.
The school says additional donations could help support student scholarships; facility renovations and expansions; athletics; and special projects.
