On March 13, Western Michigan University Cooley Law School students were recognized for outstanding academic achievement, professionalism and leadership roles with various student organizations during the law school’s Auburn Hills campus Honors Convocation.

The National Moot Court team, consisting of Brandon Ayers, Joshua Bemis, and Lauren Simasko, was honored for sweeping and winning the regional Moot Court competition held at Marshall Law School last November. They went on to compete in the national finals in New York City, going up against the top schools in the nation.

Students Tami Salzbrenner and Samantha Barry were presented with the Leadership Achievement Award. The award acknowledges students who have consistently, comprehensively and effectively provided leadership in a variety of capacities.

Salzbrenner, originally from St. Petersburg, Fla., is a graduate of Oakland University. During her years at WMU-Cooley, she served as president of the Military Veterans Law Student Association, editor-in-chief at Law Review, member of the Cooley Ambassador Program and Society for Personal and Professional Integrity, graduation marshal/master of ceremonies and awards clerk, and was a teaching and research assistant for various departments. Salzbrenner also received the Alumni Distinguished Student Award, which is presented to a student who has led by example and has shown outstanding dedication to the student body.

Barry, a Jacksonville, N.C. native, is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. While at WMU-Cooley, she served as Student Bar Association president and public relations director.
