Fred S. Findling
With a heavy heart, the Findling Law Firm and The Darren Findling Law Firm announce the passing of our father, colleague, mentor, and friend, Fred S. Findling. He passed away peacefully at home on April 30 surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old.
Findling was a courageous attorney for more than 61 years. Orphaned at a young age from the Holocaust in World War II, Findling was a stalwart defender of the underdog. He built a thriving legal practice where he often represented clients without remuneration. In the 1960s, Findling traveled to the south as a pro bono, civil rights attorney. He had a sharp mind and extensive knowledge of the law, which was only surpassed by his devotion and loyalty to his clients, many of whom developed a lifelong connection to him. Three of Findling's six children ultimately joined him in the law firm and together they hosted a weekly Ask a Lawyer call-in radio show where listeners loved hearing him sign on after his sons with a jubilant, "And, I'm Fred."
Findling is survived by his loving wife of more than 20 years, six children and their spouses, and 13 adoring grandchildren.
He led a life of courage, compassion, charisma, and love.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 2, at the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield followed by a graveside burial at Machpelah Cemetery, 21701 Woodward Ave. in Ferndale.
It is suggested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Fred S. Findling may do so by making a contribution to:
