Seminar explores 'Which Case, Which Court'

The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Which Case, Which Court: District, Circuit, or Federal?” on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. at the OCBA offices, at the OCBA offices, 1760 South Telegraph Road, Suite 100, in Bloomfield Hills.

Absent proper jurisdiction over a case, a court lacks the legal authority to pass judgment or impose sentence on a criminal defendant. This seminar provides an overview of common criminal charges and which court should properly oversee the case. In addition, the speakers will provide practice pointers on how to ensure your client’s case is heard in the proper court.

Speaking at the seminar will be Layne A. Sakwa of Fried, Saperstein, Sakwa PC; and Margaret A. Scott of Secrest Wardle.

This seminar is worth one training hour for attorneys on criminal appointment lists.

Cost for OCBA members is $12 for pre-registration and $25  for on site registration. Non-members pay $25 for pre-registration and $40 for on site registration.
