Chief Deputy County Executive Gerald D. Poisson was sworn in as Oakland County executive on Saturday by Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown. Pursuant to Public Act 139 of 1973, Poisson will assume the duties of county executive until the Board of Commissioners appoints a replacement. If the board does not appoint a successor for County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who died on Satuday, within 30 days, the law mandates a special election be held.
Patterson appointed Poisson as deputy county executive for Oakland County in 2005 after serving as assistant deputy county executive from 1999 through 2004. Prior to that, Poisson served as the director of Oakland County’s Department of Corporation Counsel. He was also chief assistant prosecuting attorney for the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
Poisson is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned his law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.
