Southfield attorney Jody Lipton has tried more than 50 jury trials and sits as an arbitrator. Her specialties include Michigan no-fault insurance, automobile negligence, premises liability and other general negligence claims. She is also an expert in motorcycle cases and insurance.
As a public service to save people money and help protect their assets, Lipton also shares her knowledge of auto insurance via interactive presentations to audiences of all types; educating people on the facts about Michigan’s no-fault system.
Lipton earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan in 1990. She went on to receive her juris doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1993, graduating magna cum laude and in the top 10 in her class. She was admitted to the Staet Bar of Michigan that same year and served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Oakland County.
In 1996, Lipton became a partner at Lipton Law, which she runs with her brother. Lipton Law includes 10 attorneys, two nurses, and support staff. Throughout her tenure, Lipton has received numerous accolades, including being named “Top Lawyer” by DBusiness magazine 8 of the last 10 years; recognized as a “Michigan Super Lawyer” 2009-2019l named “Leading Lawyer” by Leading Lawyer in Conjunction with Hour Magazine; achieved an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
The Huntington Woods resident loves spending quality time with her husband and children; traveling; meeting new people; and working out.

What is your proudest moment as a lawyer?
When clients hug me and thank me.

I followed in the family tradition.

I still love coming to work every day even after 26 years.

Moving to Washington, D.C. and working in a social justice role for women’s rights.

The Corner Grill, Bar + Game Room in Ferndale and Detroit Axe.

Anything related to NPR.
What was always written on your grade school report card?
“Talks too much.”
What is your happiest childhood memory?
My dad loved the beach and my parents always took us on beach vacations.
What do you wish someone would invent?
Zero-calorie Sauvignon Blanc.
What has been your favorite year so far?
1993, 1997 or 1999—Marriage and kids are the most important things in my world.
Favorite stamp on your passport?
Ecuador—loved seeing the Galapagos Islands.
When you look back into the past, what do you miss most?
The simplicity of being 22 and living with my than boyfriend (now husband) in our apartment. No worries. Totally carefree.
If you could have witnessed any event in history, what would it be?
The Women’s Right to Vote.
What were you doing in your last selfie?
Sitting on my husband’s lap.
What’s something you changed your mind about recently?
My desire to learn to play golf.
What is one thing you would like to learn to do?
Bartend as we own a few bars.
What is the best advice you ever received?
Over. Done with. Gone. (I never hold a grudge.)

Bluetooth Sleep Mask so I can listen to meditation and waves all night long.
What are you looking forward to?
Enjoying my kids’ entry into adulthood with my husband. It’s a great ride.
