The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) hosted its Winter Meeting, “A Whole New World: Navigating Changes to New Discovery Rules, New No-Fault Amendments, and a Few Things in Between,” on Friday, Nov. 8, at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel. During the meeting’s lunch, MDTC and the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ) each presented a “Respected Advocate Award.” The honorees were MDTC recipient Dan Swanson (second from left), of Sommers Schwartz PC, and MAJ recipient Cindy Merry (second from right), of Merry, Farnen, & Ryan PC. Offering their congratulations to the pair were (left to right) Kimberlee Hillock of Willingham & Cote’ PC; MDTC President Irene Bruce Hathway of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, &?Stone PLC; MAJ President Robert MacDonald of MacDonald & MacDonald PLLC; and Stephen Madej of Scarfone &?Green PC. The MDTC annually gives the award to a member of the plaintiff’s bar for the purpose of recognizing and honoring the individual’s history of successful representation of clients and adherence to the highest standards of ethics. The MAJ does the same annually for a defense practitioner. The aim is promote mutual respect and civility.
