The official opening of the Holly Oaks ORV Park took place September 11 following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by a host of county and legal VIPs. Two attorneys – Bob Kostin, a member of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission, and Jerry Fisher, former chair of the OCPR – were among those on hand for the event, and are credited for helping make the 235-acre park a reality for off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Those pictured at the ribbon-cutting included (left to right) Parks Commission Vice Chairman J. David VanderVeen; Parks Commissioners Andrea LaFontaine and Bob Kostin; former Parks Commissioner Ron Fowkes; Oakland County Board of Commissioner Penny Luebs; Parks Executive Officer Dan Stencil; Parks Chairman Gary R. McGillivray; State Senator Ruth Johnson; County Executive Dave Coulter; Groveland Township Supervisor Bob DePalma; County Board of Commission Chairman David Woodward; Supervisor Holly State Recreation Area Shawn Speaker; former Parks Chairman Jerry Fisher; Holly Township Supervisor George Kullis; and Parks Commissioner Amanda Herzog. Head of his own law firm in Clarkston, Kostin was among the featured speakers at the event, dressing up for the occasion to show his enthusiasm for the sport of motorcycling, while also expressing his gratitude for the cooperative effort between the county and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, partners in managing the park that is adjacent to the Mt. Holly Ski Resort.
