More than 100 Oakland County Health Division employees will provide the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines by appointment only to about 3,000 residents on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. The Health Division notified eligible individuals of their opportunity to make an appointment based on the State of Michigan’s COVID-19 vaccination plan and the information they provided on Oakland County’s “Save Your Spot” list in the order they were received. All appointment slots for Saturday are full.
“We are excited to partner with the Suburban Collection Showplace and vaccinate thousands of Oakland County residents and essential workers in one day,” County Executive David Coulter said. “Health Division staff are working swiftly to provide vaccination as quickly as supplies become available from the state.
“It is vital that we have a re-organized federal strategy that makes more vaccine available, adds multiple vaccine providers so residents have many more options to make an appointment, and increases production of the vaccine and supply chain. We have within our grasp a tremendous scientific achievement to bring about the end of the pandemic, save lives and recover our economy and it is absolutely critical the roll out meets this moment,” Coulter said.
This is the first time the Suburban Collection Showplace, previously the site of a regional field hospital for COVID-19 patients, is hosting one of Oakland County’s COVID-19 vaccination clinics. Pandemic safety measures will be in place including masks and social distancing. Suburban Collection Showplace is providing the space to the county rent free through mid-June.
“We are pleased to play any additional role we can in this fight against COVID-19,” said Blair Bowman, owner of Suburban Collection Showplace. “As a facility and a corporate citizen, we are eager to bring this process full circle and play a meaningful role in the delivery of the vaccines to help defeat this virus.”
In addition to the Suburban Collection Showplace site, Oakland County Health Division will also vaccinate just over 500 individuals against COVID-19 by appointment only Saturday at its drive-thru vaccination clinic in Southfield. Appointments are full at the Southfield location, as well.
The Health Division is currently vaccinating eligible residents and workers from healthcare, long-term care; law enforcement, fire and EMS; education staff, and individuals 65 years and older who live or work in Oakland County.
