The Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Michigan and the Ingham County Bar Association will present “Being a Counselor to Your Client: Recognizing Mental Health and Referring to Treatment” as an online program on Thursday, March 18, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
An attorney in a number of practice areas including criminal law, family law, and other practice areas will encounter individuals with various mental health conditions including substance use disorders. Sometimes the client may not be upfront about or aware of their conditions. As the attorney and counselor, it would likely improve the quality of the client’s life (as well as potentially the outcome of the case) for them to receive treatment to address such.
Speaking at the program will be Debra Willard, supervisor within Adult Mental Health Services of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Community Mental Health.
