Annual Meeting, Awards Ceremony hosted online

The Oakland County Bar Association will conduct its 87th Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony online this year on Thursday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. via Zoom.

As tradition, outgoing OCBA President Keefe A. Brooks will pass the gavel to incoming President Kaveh Kashef. After getting sworn in as the bar’s 89th president, Kashef’s first action as the new leader will be to deliver remarks about his vision for the year ahead.

In addition, the OCBA will honor its award recipients and its members celebrating 40 years of practicing law in Michigan.

The 2021 award recipients include:

• Distinguished Service Award—Kaitlin A. Brown

• Distinguished Career Achievement Award—Judge Gene Schnelz (posthumously)

• Distinguished Public Servant Award—Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Shalina D. Kumar and Oakland County Probate Court Chief Judge Kathleen A. Ryan

• Lakeshore Legal Aid Pro Bono Service Award—LaVonne Bannister Jackson

• Bonnie L. Beutler Outstanding New Lawyer Award—Katherine R. Schiefer

• Professionalism Award—Michael J. Sullivan

• S. Gerald Gorcyca Meritorious Service to Veterans Award—retired Judge Fred M. Mester

• Allene and Martin Doctoroff Liberty Bell Award—Darlene King

• Committee of the Year Award—Business Court and Counsel Committee and Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Attendance at the virtual Annual Meeting is free, however, space is limited. To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”  The Zoom link will be distributed via email to those registered a few days prior to the scheduled event.
