The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Office Jim Nash’s show “Water By The Quarter” (WBTQ) was selected as a 2021 Communicator Award of Distinction winner and received the prestigious Silver Award in the Film, Television and Video in the Social Issues and Responsibility category.

Winners of the 27th Annual Communicator Awards were officially announced by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. With over 6,000 entries received from across the US and around the world, the Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring creative excellence for communication professionals

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office win represents the top 25% out of a total of 35% of the winners selected from 6,000 entries. Winners who received the competition’s highest honor, the Award of Excellence, include UFC, PepsiCo, Forbes, BoxMedia, WWE, Microsoft, Code Re, GmbH, Comcast, and Disney Creative Studios.

Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, stated, “I appreciate this award, we work hard to inform the public about our water, sewer and storm water systems. Realizing the limited exposure that the public has about these issues, my show fills that void and allows for a deeper understanding.

It puts into context public health and safety, environmental protections, economic prosperity, and climate change and resiliency issues for the audience.”

Sharing appreciation for the show, while acknowledging the award, United States Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin stated, “I joined Jim Nash’s show last year, and it was great to discuss our passion for protecting Michigan’s water by investing in our infrastructure, so we all have access to safe, clean water that’s free from PFAS and other chemicals. Jim’s work to educate people and advocate for clean water makes our entire community safer and healthy.”

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner's Office award-winning episode featured United States Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s interview, where water legislation, water infrastructure, issues impacting the many facets of water and the importance of protecting our water resources were discussed via Zoom.

“Water By The Quarter” is a collaborative public affairs program with public access station CMN-TV. The creative initiative is made possible by the impressive work of host Nash, the show's creative director/producer, Water Resources Julia Ruffin, and CMN-TV's production producer Kevin Eckhart, which was truly representative of this year's “Communication is Everything” theme.

Eckhart stated, “Community Media Network Television is proud to accept this award. As a public access TV station, CMN-TV provides media production training to the public, and a wide range of video services to our local government partners. We are honored to be recognized for our long-standing production partnership with the Oakland County Water Commissioner's Office and look forward to producing many more programs of interest and benefit to the citizens of Oakland County.”
