State Land Bank releases new development opportunities for 2022

Michigan’s State Land Bank Authority (SLBA) continues to seek qualified real estate developers with a record of success in residential, mixed-use, commercial, alternative energy and industrial development projects to become part of SLBA’s pre-qualified developer group that will energize development statewide. SLBA encourages non-profit, for profit, women and minority owned business to provide their credentials to be pre-qualified for these unique opportunities.

“We look forward to working closely with new partners as we take on future redevelopment projects and create new opportunities for economic growth and revitalization throughout our communities,” said SLBA Executive Director Emily Doerr. “With a more streamlined process in place, our system will be even more efficient and ready to take on new pre-qualified development partners who will bring life back to properties across the state.”

These pre-qualified development partners will receive the first chance to review and submit proposals for upcoming development opportunities. Examples of upcoming opportunities include a former gas station, a mix of vacant residential and commercial properties and a former elementary school.

Pre-qualified developers will also get first chance at bidding on upcoming projects with the City of Hartford and Van Buren County Land Bank Authority, and the City of Sault Ste Marie.  

“We look forward to working closely with the State Land Bank on these exciting new redevelopment opportunities that will bring added value, economic growth and revitalization to our communities,” said Kelly Freeman, community development director for the City of Sault Ste Marie. “This partnership allows us to address present needs in our communities to build a stronger foundation for them moving forward.”  

The SLBA will soon be releasing details on three development opportunities on SLBA owned properties in the cities of Grand Ledge and Muskegon Heights. Future opportunities may be released exclusively to pre-qualified development partners.

To partner with the SLBA, interested parties are encouraged to respond to the revised Request for Qualification (RFQ). All submissions will be reviewed within 90 days and a new pre-qualification process will streamline future responses. The SLBA recently released an initial Notice of Intent to Solicit Development Proposals to announce opportunities in the coming months.
