Webinar to examine impact of trauma on Family Law cases

The Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present the webinar "Trauma-Informed Practice: Understanding Its Impact in Family Law Cases" Friday, April 29, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

This webinar builds on the 2021 webinar, which focused on the nature of domestic violence and coercive control. To continue to effectively represent clients, family law attorneys must understand how the trauma caused by domestic violence impacts clients and outcomes in cases. The webinar will explain trauma and teach you how to recognize its effects on client interactions.

Panelists include Ashley Lowe, Lakeshore Legal Aid; Liz West, SCAO; Rebecca Shiemke, Michigan Poverty Law Program; and Shelley Spivak, Genesee County FOC, retired. Randy Pitler, of Pitler Family Law & Mediation, will moderate.

The webinar is free to Family Law Section members, Friend of Court referees and staff, judges, and judges' staff. Those who are not yet a member of the Family Law Section can join by visiting https://connect.michbar.org/familylaw/home and clicking on Section Membership Application.
