Oakland County Bar Association co-sponsors judicial candidate forums for primary elections

Oakland County voters will soon have the opportunity to hear directly from judicial candidates in all upcoming elections for Oakland County judgeships. A series of judicial candidate forums will provide voters with the chance to hear the candidates speak about pertinent issues before the ballots are cast.

The upcoming forums for the primary election are:

• 45th District Court
Candidates: Judge Michelle Friedman Appel (incumbent)
  Diana Lynn McClain
  Brenda Richard

Monday, June 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Huntington Woods City Hall 26815 Scotia Road in Huntington Woods.

• 52nd District Court, Division 4

Candidates: Judge Kirsten Nielsen Hartig (incumbent)
  Mike Bosnic
  Tonya Clawson Goetz

Monday, June 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Community Media Network TV (CMNtv), 1230 Souter Boulevard in Troy. Persons interested in attending the forum for the 52nd District Court in-person must pre-register with CMNtv at www.cmntv.org/events/lwvoa. Proof of vaccination may be submitted either in-person upon arrival or emailed in advance to vax@cmntv.org.

These forums are the result of a partnership between the Oakland County Bar Association, the League of Women Voters-Oakland Area, and the Detroit Free Press that sponsors forums in all contested judicial races in Oakland County. The purpose of this partnership is to disseminate information about judicial candidates in their communities to help voters become more knowledgeable and informed, encouraging participation in Oakland County judicial elections.

The forums are open to the public and will be live-streamed as well as recorded so they may be aired on cable channels in the communities where the races take place.

Additionally, all candidates have been asked to complete a Judicial Candidate Questionnaire. The completed questionnaires as well as specific information about each forum are available on the OCBA website at www.ocba.org/Judicial_Candidate_Forums_2022. The questionnaires are posted exactly as the candidates submitted them.
