'Annual Youth Law Conference' presented by OCBA November 1

The Oakland County Bar Association will host the “28th Annual Youth Law Conference” on Tuesday, November 1, at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy.

The Youth Law Conference is a one-day event that educates high school juniors and seniors about career options in the legal profession, the general legal process, provides tools for better decision-making, and features a variety of legal issues as they pertain to the students. By tailoring this program to the interests and issues of a teen audience, the OCBA and its volunteer attorneys deliver an engaging program that is a hit with students and teachers alike.

This year’s conference will feature keynote speaker Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein. Other topics addressed during the conference will include:

• How I Got From There to Here - Different paths to a legal career
• Advocacy in Real Life
• Adulting: Rights and Responsibilities Once You Turn 18
• Social Media and the First Amendment
• Criminal Law and Traffic Stops
• Law Dogs

The Youth Law Conference is presented by the Law-Related Education Committee of the OCBA with support from the Oakland County Bar Foundation.

Any schools interested in participating in the conference should contact Janise Thies at 248-334-3400 or jthies@ocba.org.
