Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash has partnered with the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA) to promote the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). Qualified residents can now receive up to $1,500 for household accounts to reduce or eliminate past-due water bills.
“I am thrilled to partner with OLHSA to promote the increase in funds available to Oakland County residents,” said Commissioner Nash. “Being able to provide aid to residents is a long-term goal of mine. Because this is a temporary program that expires on September 30, 2023, I encourage every eligible household to apply for these funds today.”
To be eligible, customers must:
• Have a residential account
• Be in water bill debt or water disconnect status
• Live under the 150% poverty level, or
- Receive temporary assistance for needy family
- Use a food assistance program or supplemental nutrition assistance program
- Receive State Emergency Relief (SER) funds
- Be on Social Security Income
“We are excited to alert our neighbors of the increase in LIHWAP water assistance benefits now being offered in partnership with Water Resources Commissioner Nash’s office,” said OLHSA CEO Susan Harding.
“LIHWAP assistance offers local residents increased water security, a path to zero water shutoffs, and connects families to OLHSA programs and community resources which help them thrive economically.”
If a customer is already using this program but has received less than $1,500 after October 1, they can reapply for additional funds.
Residents in need are encouraged to schedule an appointment with OLHSA to sign up. Call 248-209-2600 or email info@olhsa.org. Documents needed to sign up include:
• ID for all household members aged 18 or older
• Proof of household income for the last 30 days or categorical eligibility document
• Social Security Card
