After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Asian Bar Association’s 9th Annual Wine Tasting event helped tip off the holiday season on December 7 at Eddie Merlot’s restaurant in Bloomfield Hills.

Among the distinguished guests at the holiday gathering were Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Sima Patel, who was appointed to the appellate court last winter and then was elected to a four-year term in November; Sangeeta Shah, CEO of Brooks Kushman in Southfield; and Satyam Talati, managing counsel at Mahindra Automotive North America in Auburn Hills.

“This event is a great opportunity for members of the South Asian Bar, local business owners, and other professionals to come together for a relaxed evening of networking and socializing while enjoying some fine wine and hors d’oeuvres,” said Nivita Beri, Of Counsel with Dinsmore & Shohl in Troy. “Each year, the event is graciously sponsored by various law firms and companies who have shown their continued support to SABA. The National SABA Chapter also supported this event
through their sponsorship. This is SABA’s flagship event that continuously has had increasing turnout year after year, and brings together the diversity in the local legal and professional community.”

The South Asian Bar Association of Michigan is a “voluntary bar organization dedicated to the needs, concerns, and interests of lawyers of South Asian descent,” according to Beri.

“SABA–MI is committed to promoting the professional development of the South Asian legal community through mentoring and networking, and creating opportunities and advancement for South Asian attorneys and law students,” Beri said, noting that the Michigan chapter is one of 29 chapters of the South Asian Bar Association of North America, which operates in the U.S. and Canada.
