Oakland County Planning, Zoning, and Land Use will conduct a Virtual Planners Gathering on “Hazard Mitigation Plan Update” Thursday, February 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. via Zoom.
Hazard Mitigation Planning is used by local, state, and federal governments to reduce the loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters. FEMA requires Hazard Mitigation Plan updates every five years, and Oakland County’s Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security will be completing this process in 2023.
Attendees will learn about the update process and how to—as stakeholders from every city, village and township in Oakland County—help plan for all the hazards that affect everyone. This session will also highlight how the updated plan is essential to access grant funding opportunities that help local municipalities prepare for and mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
Speaking at the online gathering will be Thom Hardesty, director, Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, Oakland County; and Rob Seeley, chief of emergency management, Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, Oakland County
