The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare Services (CWS) will present a webinar on “A Thousand Years of Wisdom: Alternative Treatment Options to Address Trauma and Stress” Tuesday, March 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
Youth, parents, and caregivers involved in foster care and juvenile justice are sometimes survivors of trauma experiencing high levels of stress. Even among the general population young people are experiencing anxiety at higher levels than ever. To help these individuals thrive, everyone should utilize proven alternative treatment practices which have been used for thousands of years for one very simple reason: they work.
This presentation will focus on what these options are and how they can be implemented. The presentation will discuss mindfulness, including a specific option being offered for free to all schools in Michigan as well as residential treatment centers for youth in placement. Also presented will be information on yoga for trauma survivors and mantra meditation.
Speaking at the training will be Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Frank Szymanski, Juvenile Division.
This training is intended for all child welfare professionals including jurists, court staff, prosecutors, attorneys, Lawyer-Guardians Ad Litem, CPS and foster care workers, tribes, private agencies, police, medical professionals, mental health providers, education professionals, and Foster Care Review Board members.
