The Oakland County Bar Association will present an online webinar on “The Nuts and Bolts of Sobriety Court” Tuesday, May 23, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
Sobriety Court is a problem-solving court that uses a supervised treatment system to treat high-risk OWI offenders who demonstrate destructive behaviors coupled with alcohol abuse. Sobriety Court’s focus is to intensively monitor high-risk and to actively supervise and treat convicted OWI offenders on probation.
The mission of Sobriety Court is to prohibit the use of alcohol and to provide support to addicted participants in their recovery process. Sobriety Court helps participants become clean and sober.
Each judge on the webinar’s panel will describe how they conduct sobriety court in their court room and will engage in Q&A. The panel will feature:
• Oakland County 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley R. Kostin
• Oakland County 52-4 District Court Judge Maureen M. McGinnis
• Oakland County 51st District Court Judge Richard D. Kuhn
• Oakland County 47th District Court Judge Marla Parker
Matthew Fraiberg, of Fraiberg & Pernie PLLC, will moderate the panel.
Credit has been approved with the Oakland County Bar Association for 1 Criminal credit and 1 Juvenile credit.
Cost for the webinar is $12 for OCBA members pre-registration and $25 for non-members pre-registration. Oakland County MIDC court appointed attorneys can attend for free.
