'2023 Elder Justice Project Annual Summit' planned

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan's Elder Justice Project, in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, will present the "2023 Elder Justice Project Annual Summit: The Effects of Elder Abuse" on Thursday, July 20, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 633 N. Canal Rd. in Lansing. This year's summit will be focused on the mental health aspects of handling vulnerable adult investigations and cases.

Secondary Trauma is something that affects many people who work on vulnerable adult abuse and exploitation cases. It is important to understand what it is and how it weighs on people over time.

This one-day summit will feature speakers presenting on several aspects of navigating the mental health concerns surrounding these investigations, both on the part of the victims as well as those who work on their behalf.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel will serve as the summit's keynote speaker. A special screening of the documentary "All the Lonely People" will also be featured. This film focuses on the effects of isolation, both upon the vulnerable adult and those that care for them.

There will be a short award ceremony during the summit. Anyone who knows of someone deserving of recognition may complete and return the Good Neighbor Award nomination form by June 30. The form can be found on the PAAM website under the EJP "Public Resources" page at https://michiganprosecutor.org/training-units/elder-justice-at-risk-adults.

There is no cost to attend the summit and lunch will be provided. Lodging, if needed, will be the responsibility of the attendee. To register for the summit, visit https://michiganprosecutor.org and click on "Training Calendar."

Anyone with questions or in need of help with registration may contact Elder Justice Project Conference Coordinator Katlyn Bolan at Bolank4@michigan.gov.
