Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash is proud to announce a new partnership with SewerAI, an innovative California company that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the way sewer infrastructure inspections are conducted. As the first municipality in Michigan to utilize this technology, Oakland County is leading the way in harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of sewer maintenance.
“By leveraging cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, we can see potential issues with sewer pipes before they reach crisis levels. By optimizing efficiency, we are protecting the environment and ensuring a healthier, more sustainable future for our communities,” said Nash. “SewerAI is revolutionizing the way sewer pipes are inspected and maintained.”
The benefits of SewerAI include:
• Reduced costs: By optimizing inspection processes and enabling early detection of issues, SewerAI's technology helps reduce maintenance costs and extends the lifespan of sewer infrastructure.
• Increased efficiency: Streamlined inspections and data analysis allow crews to cover more ground, nearly twice as fast.
• Better informed decision making: Access to accurate and consistent data empowers crews to make informed decisions regarding maintenance and repairs, ultimately enhancing the overall performance of the sewer system.
Previously, sewer maintenance crews noted any irregularities or defects of a pipe’s interior by manually inspecting videos captured by closed-circuit television. Now, those videos are uploaded to SewerAI which uses its proprietary AI software to assess the pipe’s condition. Using machine-based learning, SewerAI can seamlessly integrate with
existing hardware, to examine underground infrastructure and identify abnormalities.
“We are really excited about working with Oakland County,” said SewerAI Chief Revenue Officer and Co-Founder Billy Gilmartin. “SewerAI was built to make our customers superhuman. Our user-friendly platform and responsive customer service enables Oakland County to focus on what matters most— prioritizing fixes and ensuring a healthy
future for the community.”
Oakland County’s partnership with SewerAI began in April 2023 with the goal of embracing technology and innovation in the sewer industry. Combined, this partnership will bolster infrastructure resilience and deliver dependable sewer services to residents. To learn more about SewerAI, visit sewerai.com.
