Oakland County Planning, Zoning, and Land Use will conduct a Virtual Planners Gathering on “Oakland County Draft ‘Maximum Extent Practical’ (MEP) Stormwater Standards” Wednesday, January, from 10 to 11 a.m. via Zoom.
Development sites must adhere to Oakland County stormwater standards, which mandate water infiltration into the ground where soil conditions permit. In cases of poor soil infiltration, developers may receive a waiver from infiltration requirements but must employ best management practices to curtail stormwater runoff from small, frequent storms to the Maximum Extent Practical (MEP).
The term MEP, rooted in the Clean Water Act, is an adaptive standard that evolves with advancing knowledge. To facilitate compliance, the County has formulated new regulations detailing pre-approved methods to meet the MEP standard—providing developers, engineers, and planners with clear guidance.
The County is seeking input from planners on the draft rules, to ensure a collaborative and well-informed approach to stormwater management. Please join us and lend your professional expertise and insight to the draft MEP process.
Speaking at the program will be Daniel P. Christian, senior project manager - water resources, Tetra Tech; and Lynne Seymour, chief engineer, Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office.
