The State Bar of Michigan’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, along with the Business Law and Litigation Sections, and the Detroit Bar Association ADR Section, will present a webinar on “Comparing International and Domestic Arbitration: Tips for Advocates, Clients and Arbitrators” Tuesday, February 20, from noon to 1 p.m.
Presenting at the webinar will be Frederick Acomb, Jamie Woolard, and Harshitha Ram.
Acomb leads the International Disputes practice at Miller Canfield, an international law firm headquartered in Detroit. He defends and prosecutes transnational litigation and international arbitration matters for clients located throughout the world. His work regularly takes him around the globe. He has appeared before arbitration tribunals in Asia, Europe, and North America. Fred has also represented international and domestic clients in more than 70 automotive supply chain disputes.
Woolard is a principal in Miller Canfield’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. He handles complex commercial disputes with an emphasis on transnational litigation and international arbitration. He has represented foreign and domestic clients in international commercial arbitrations administered by the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, as well as in litigation in U.S. state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Ram is an international disputes attorney, arbitrator, and mediator, concentrating in diverse areas of law, including commercial, information technology, healthcare, labor and employment. Her practice encompasses early dispute resolution (EDR), arbitration, and mediation on both the domestic and international fronts. Ram serves as an adjunct professor of law at MSU and NEIU. Her legal training spans three jurisdictions—USA, India, and the UK, and she is licensed to practice law in Illinois and India. She holds leadership roles as the chair of the ADR Section of the Detroit Bar Association (DBA) and publications chair of the Arbitration Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA).
