‘Court Diversion, Consent Calendar Programs’ focus of MJI webinar April 26

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare Juvenile Services will present a webinar on “Court Diversion and Consent Calendar Programs and Processes” Friday, April 26, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

Effective October 1, 2024, Child Care Fund eligibility will be expanded to include programs and practices starting at the point which a petition, complaint or referral is received for all youth at risk of juvenile justice system involvement: Thus, providing the opportunity for courts to use Child Care funding to support programming and services for youth who are eligible for diversion and/or consent calendar options.

This webinar will provide attendees with the following:

• The opportunity to hear from local courts on the processes and programming structures used for diversion and consent calendar.

• How to foster new ideas in the areas of diversion and consent calendar usage.

• Information about how these programs were developed, the collaboration that occurred between the courts and other juvenile justice stakeholders to make these programs successful, and how the programs and practices have evolved into what they are today.

Speaking at the webinar will be Grand Traverse County Probate Court Judge Jennifer L. Whitten, Family Division; Thom Lattig, juvenile court director for the Family Division, Ottawa County; Hope St. Armor, juvenile probation officer and diversion & intake specialist, Marquette County.

This webinar will qualify as 1.00 CJE Credit Hours in Judicial Practice and Related Areas. This webinar will be recorded and available on the Judicial Learning Management System for judicial staff to access at a later date.

The webinar is intended for county implementation team members, judges, quasi-judicial officers, court administrators, probation officers, and other impacted stakeholders.
