The organizer of the Climax Memorial Day vendors, craft show and other activities, had two big announcements recently about the event.

Event organizer Julie Tiller said vendors and crafters at this year’s Memorial Day event in the Village of Climax donated from their hearts for their booth fees and raised $2,520 to the Climax-Scotts American Legion Post #465 Veterans Memorial Project. Tiller said in three years, Memorial Day craft show vendors and crafters have donated $8,709 to the Climax-Scotts American Legion Veterans Memorial Project.

Tiller also announced Memorial Day craft and vendor and other activities will change location, switching back to the Climax-Scotts Jr./Sr. High School campus near the old C-S Intermediate School where the festivities were held for many years before a change of location was made to the middle of the downtown Climax in 2021.

Tiller said barricades that were put in place before the Run To Climax caused some unplanned issues.

The barricades blocking off a small portion of the downtown area, remained in place for the parade and events in the middle of town until 3 p.m.

The event organizer said after listening to input and reading comments, a roll out plan for a change of location for 2025 was initiated.

Tiller said event organizers reached out to Climax-Scotts Community Schools Superintendent Doug Newington and the group was given the green light by the superintendent to begin planning to have the 2025 event back at the C-S Intermediate School.

The Sunset Cruisers, who sponsor an old car show each Memorial Day and continued to use the old Intermediate School parking when the other events were in the middle of the village, told Tiller they were in favor of the plan to have all of the activities moved back to the C-S Intermediate School.

“We know we can’t please everyone. But we believe by opening the middle of town before the parade it will help the issues that some of you encountered this year,” said Tiller.
