On May 26, 2018, Ramsey broke into the victim’s home searching for his wife, who was a family member. During the break-in, Ramsey struggled with and killed Ellis. He then removed Ellis from the home and transported him to an alley nearby, where Ramsey set his body on fire. Ellis’ body was discovered days later. To identify the remains, an anthropologist was consulted to determine the race, height, weight, and gender of the remains, and a forensic dentist was consulted to confirm the identity.
“I am grateful to the prosecutors in my office for pursuing these charges and commend the jury for their service,” Nessel said. “While I know nothing can bring back Mr. Ellis, whose life was tragically lost, I hope the verdict offers a sense of closure for his loved ones.”
Sentencing will occur on July 10th at noon in front of Judge Anne Marie McCarthy of the Third Circuit Court in Wayne County.
